Beinn a' Choin (769m)

On the drive west, I hit the fog on the M9 and was in the pea soup until Aberfoyle when I emerged like a butterfly (or something) into a gloriously sunny Trossachan prospect.

The waters of Loch Ard were mirror still with reflections of oaks and boating sheds backdropped by the mighty Ben Lomond, still with large snow fields on its northern flanks.

I left the bike at Corriearklet and parked the car at the pier at Stronachlachar overlooking Loch Katrine. Then ventured onto rough slopes of Garradh and then Maol Mor with views widening at every step. Below I could see the Katrine paddle steamer heading west as a buzzard shrieked high above. Frogs were busy in every body of water I passed, and above my head I could hear skylarks twittering away.

After a couple of hours I reached the summit of this hill and lay in the sun in the shelter of the cairn for some food. The views were pretty good for a wee hill; it is placed very close to some popular hills but darned difficult to get to! I didn't see a soul all day.

The picture is looking north east to the Crianlarich hills.

I turned south and headed over to Stob an Fhainne and then dropped down to the bike at Corriearklet for the gentle roll back to the car.
