Well....I never knew that.....

I always thought that the Treaty of Waitangi was signed at Waitangi ? Well yes, it was, but I didn't know copies were also signed elsewhere all over NZ over the next 8 months, including here at Karaka Bay, Glendowie in March 1840. So says a signboard at the walkway down to the beach that we discovered today on an outing on bikes. An amazing collection of homes on this hidden little gem of a beach down the cliff below "normal" suburbia - old baches through to quite a modern home. Quite a surprise discovery.
And what a superb day for a ride it was too, along Tamaki Drive to Achilles Point, a loop around Glendowie and Glen Innes, then a coffee stop at St Heliers.
