Day 5 - Kraking Onwards

After a day without driving yesterday, we returned to the roads today. We headed out of Berlin bound for Krakow, Poland, a drive of about 600km. We had a surreal moment as we headed out of Berlin when the SatNav said keep straight on for 572km - the longest we've ever seen an instruction last.

The kilometres were passing quite quickly in Germany on the unrestricted autobahn. However as we crossed into Poland, the first 50 or so kilometres on the E14 were slowed by the awful state of the road surface. We thought the car was going to be shaken to pieces but thankfully we hit much better conditions eventually and with the speed limit typically 140km/h (about 90mph), the journey again picked up pace. With it being Easter Sunday, and most things being shut, today was about getting the miles in.

Tonight we're staying in a fascinating hotel on the site of an old salt mine in Wieliczka (near Krakow). It's a lovely location with character brought by bits of salt mining equipment on display. The blip is the main building at the top of the mine. I've been given the pack for tomorrow and we begin the day by taking a tour of the salt mine which look amazing.

Happy Easter everyone.
