Bairns Not Bombs

Spent today at an anti-trident demo in George Square.

Anti-Trident campaigners from a range of political parties- the SNP, Labour, the Scottish Green Party and those with no party affiliations- United with one another to march against the UK's illegal and immoral Nuclear "deterrent"

After marching around the streets of Glasgow, we returned to George Square where we heard Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Patrick Harvie MSP and Katy Clark MP. CND's Big Sandy and Big CiNDY joined the protestors and someone had taken a stick of chalk to the pavements and scrawled some Trident related chalktivism

2016 sees the year in which the UK is due to renew its trident nuclear missiles, so it is now more important than ever to demonstrate that Scotland will not tolerate the monstrosity of trident. Is it right to be spending £100bn on weapons of mass destruction when 1 in 5 children in Scotland are born into poverty, food banks are springing up all over the country and our NHS is in crisis? Weapons that can destroy miles of towns and cities, kill or injure millions of people in just the push of a button? Instead we should be investing in health, child care, transport and education. There's hardly any money for these things that society relies on, yet there is always money for war and weapons.

Trident has to go and it has to go now; for a safer, greener, more peaceful world.
