Processions, Zihua Style
One of first trips out of the area was to San Miguel de Allende for the Semana Santa processions. They were incredibly moving, long lines of devoted people quietly walking down streets lined with identically dressed participants. Today, Good Friday, Zihuatanejo held its own version on the street next to the canal. The marchers braved the hot sun for over an hour as they walked between town and the church as Plaza Kioto, pausing at a number of shrines to hear what I presume were passages from the bible. While not as elegantly dressed as those in San Miguel, the sense of devotion was no less pronounced.
