Blowing Glass

I visited the Philabaum Glass Gallery & Studio today with a group from my Singles club.  We watched Tom Philabaum and his team blow glass bowls.  It was an amazing process to watch.

That fledgling bowl you see Tom working with has just come out of a 3,000 degree furnace.  That's why his helper is shielding him from the heat.

The studio specializes in hand made contemporary glass art.  The Gallery features over 50 established glass artists from around the country, including blown glass, cast glass, fused glass, solid glass, and a diverse display of jewelry.

After the demonstration, we went out to lunch at a great, kind of 'new age' restaurant.  The senior women I was with called it that because it had a very modern menu...healthy, organic and more vegetarian options than not.  I loved it.  (I think they  wanted burgers!)

It was good to get out and do something different.
