Regeneration!

Just outside the city of Manchester is Ancoats which as well as being famous as the scene for many for LS Lowry paintings was really the cradle of the industrial revolution but suffered massively from the 1930's onwards resulting in some of the worst slums in Manchester. Now renamed New Islington it is an area being rapidly regenerated to provide modern housing (mostly apartments) and high tech businesses such as Fab Lab where you can make things using 3-D printers and Laser Cutters.  Youngest daughter is a regular visitor now and I went with her this morning so she could practice her driving!  It's an area with great potential and I love the way Urban Splash is re-using buildings such as Ancoats Hospital on Old Mill Street (one of the oldest hospitals in the country - built in 1874!
