Pink Peony
I haven't really had much time for blipping today ,some unpacking from the weekend ,a lovely facial and then some shopping ,were not really inspiring at all .
We had a lovely hot day again ,but by the time it was school pick up time the heavens opened and we had thunder storms on and off for a couple of hours .
With no blip photos I went on a wander around the garden for inspiration,it looked really pretty with the raindrops still on some of the leaves .
This was my favourite because of the nice big raindrops on the flower and also the fantastic colour -a favourite of mine !
I looked up Peonies and found out that :
The peony is named after Paeon (also spelled Paean), a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Asclepius became jealous of his pupil; Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius by turning him into the peony flower.
Over 262 compounds have been obtained so far from the plants of Paeoniaceae. These include monoterpenoid glucosides, flavonoids, tannins, stilbenoids, triterpenoids and steroids, paeonols, and phenols.
Biological activities include antioxidant, antitumor, antipathogenic, immune-system-modulation activities, cardiovascular-system-protective activities and central-nervous-system activities.
The peony is among the longest-used flowers in Eastern culture and is one of the smallest living creature national emblems in China. Along with the plum blossom, it is a traditional floral symbol of China, where the Paeonia suffruticosa is called ?? (m?d?n). It is also known as ??? (fùguìhu?) "flower of riches and honour," and is used symbolically in Chinese art
I never knew that flowers had so much to them ....
Hope you had a good blippy day !
