hutchesons hall

one of the most elegant buildings in central Glasgow erected 1805 named after the brothers George and Thomas Hutcheson whose 1655 statues in the west and east niches are the oldest freestanding statues in the city. The brothers founded a hospital and school for orphan boys elswhere in 1660 the name of course living on today in Hutchesons Grammar School. The school song " In 1650 the school began with 12 boys on the roll......." and boys sang on their version "and they bent their backs to the masters' whacks for the good of body and soul" :-)
