More Wildlife Through The Window
Yet another picture, today, through the window behind the kitchen sink, this time of one of our three families of squirrels feeding.
During the night it rained very heavily and much to our surprise the shower room ceiling was wet when we walked into it. I went out onto the balcony and examined the roof very thoroughly; I could not initially see where it was possible to leak. I decided to recoat the roof with sealant, being very careful where the railing mountings penetrated the roof; I completed this without any problems and with no indication of a leak. However, as I was about to come down, I discovered that our lovely slated roof was not properly sealed to the steel roof of the balcony; our roofer had omitted to bond the two together. It was windy during the night as well as raining and water had blown up the steel roof, under the slates, over the end of the steel roof and then trickled back along the bottom surface of the roof, eventually dripping onto the shower room ceiling. My job tomorrow is to bond the sealant strip between the slates and the metal to the metal so that there is not a 10mm gap! It seems as though many of todays so called craftsmen do an excellent job and then spoil it by taking a short cut somewhere.
