St Mary's Church
I cannot do this little church justice in one shot so I will have to go back. Get the wider view here! A keen photographer we met at the show last weekend told us about it. He described it as Arts & Crafts before its time. Indeed, the church was built 1840 -1842, forty years before the movement began in Britain.
A remarkable woman, Sarah Losh, paid for the building of this church which she designed. She sent the builders to Italy for a year to study so perhaps this is why it is built in the shape of a Roman basilica. She herself had done the "Grand Tour".
The thing that is most unusual about the design is that nature features everywhere! Next time I might blip the bat or the dragon. Here I have shown the eagles holding the alter table in the apse.
Birds seemed appropriate today as yesterday I heard of the death of blipper longshanks and his elusive alter ego RedCoatedBirder.
I wish there was a special place here for deceased blippers to be listed and remembered. Sometimes you just don't realise that someone you follow has died and it would be nice for the families to know that people around the world enjoyed what they had to say and cared about them.
