Prehistoric giant elk

or Irish Elk, look at those antlers, they would have weighed more than 40 kilos! Can't imagine what they were good for apart from looking imposing for the lady elks and scary to any other male Irish Elks. By the way, they're called 'Irish' because their skeletons were mainly found in bogs in Ireland, but they were present from Ireland to  the Baikal Lake in Siberia. They ceased to exist around 12.000 years ago. My friend Cathie from Houston was in Brussels these past few days and we arranged to meet to go see the Lascaux exhibition at the Musee Cinquantenaire/Jubelpark Museum today. It's still on for a week and a half and then it will move to Paris. If you get a chance go see it, fascinating work to re-create the famous caves with its cave art while the real thing is closed for the public. And it does make you wonder again and again what the exact meaning of the drawings and signs were, and realise just how much effort must have gone into these works originally.

Thanks very much for your comments on yesterday's street image :-)
