Sorry - No tractor Tuesday
So pleased to be without a kidney sheath in my body after 5 months. It was put in a few days after storm Gonzalo on 22nd October uprooted a large larch next to the house.
Today storm Niklas hit with full force. Spent most of the day simply fascinated at seeing trees crash down around me. Some will remember my tales of trying to get the Bavarian State Forestry to remove them, a saga going back at least two years. It will be interesting to see if the state recompenses for damage done to gghe wrought iron, hand made fencing.
Luckily no person or animal damage. The trees probably about 30m tall didn't hit any buildings - one stopped about 3m from the house roof and another about 1m from the swimming pool.
We even lost one of our own spruces close to the electricity lines. Luckily it fell in the opposite direction. I did not enjoy passing this small clump of spruce, worried that on swinging back, they would hit the lines. We lost electricity once during the morning but must have been caused elsewhere.
The storm caused quite a bit of damage with loss of lives. Angie had to give up getting home, the trains had stopped running during the day. She has stayed in Munich for the night.
Flash hates such days - he spent every single second or every minute under my feet. I did feel very sorry for him but by evening I was beginning to lose my patience. So we risked the storms, lashing rain and showers for another walk to the village lakes. All went well and we actually even saw a Ryanair plane landing at Memmingen. According to the radio, many flights were cancelled.
Sadly on getting home, got a phone call from daughter Kate that the family had to cancel tomorrows visit. All four of them been hit by THE flu, the children having just started, so feeling particularly bad. What a great shame for us all but hopefully we can make up for it with a visit in sunnier, warmer times and when the garden looks half way cleared up.
Son J coming on Friday so he will have to substitute for the grandchildren and see if he can find where the Easter Bunny has hidden the eggs and then we can send them off to Ireland and hope they may spped up recovery.
So all round not a good day. Weather know due to get cold with snow, sleet etc. Just maybe we might try out J's "new" skiis on Saturday up in the alps as there should be quite a bit of new snow.
I did actually see one tractor today during a break in the weather was playing water frisbee with the dogs on the flooded fields when what looked like the big New Holland I Bliped a few weeks ago shot by on the road. Am sure I can make amens for the missing tractor picture soon.
