Berserker

At the entrance to the Woodlands Centre (a cafe) stands another of the huge carved replicas of pieces from the Lewis Chessmen. This one is the Rook - usually a Castle in "traditional" chess sets. This piece was modelled on one of the "berserker" Viking warriors who used to get high on 'magic mushrooms' before going into battle so that they would not feel any pain. This one is biting his shield in his ecstasy/agony.
