Tomorrow there will be the latest meeting of the Lansdown Hall Working Group which oversees the regeneration of the hall on behalf of the town council who now own it. I have been chairing the group for about four years and its members include councillors, the mayor, the town clerk, the architect, the fund raiser and the project manager.
After a big fundraising push last year we are in the middle of several different sections of building works on the building. The heating has been upgraded integrating heat pumps, a new boiler and modern radiators and now works wonderfully well. No more complaints about the heating, other than it is too hot. Ventilation is now also on the agenda.
Tomorrow we have to finalise the awarding of another contract for the replacement of all the rainwater gutters and downpipes, as well as the rebuilding of a large stone framed window to serve as a test before replacing all the others.
I went there today to record the current state of the new building we have commissioned, which is attached to the end of the hall. It will act as a backstage area and stage door, an equipment store and as a 'green room'. There have been a variety of slightly tricky issues ever since the groundworks started to be built, but it is all going along smoothly now. I thought some pictures would help us when sitting round the table as not all members of the group will have visited the works.
By chance John, the building contractor on this part of the project, also arrived to meet his bricklayer who was pointing up the blocks they are building with. Tomorrow more scaffolding arrives as the walls continue to climb. While John talked to the bricklayer I noticed his trowel had been put down in front of me and I couldn't resist this shot with the grounds of Bank Gardens behind the hall and St Laurence's church above it. Stroud High Street is about seventy yards away from this spot.
