Appropriate Behaviour
Spokes and I both had a welcome day off today and we didn't let the murky, rainy weather dampen our spirits. Indeed we saw it as a sign that we should get up late, go out for a tasty all-day breakfast, laze about by the fire and then head into town for a special screening of Desiree Akhavan's new comedy, Appropriate Behaviour, introduced by the writer/directer/star herself in a Skype link-up from her home in Brooklyn.
The film was excellent and Desiree was a total charmer. Spokes managed to put a question to her about whether people in Iran (the country from which Desiree's parents emigrated to the USA) were able to see her work and she replied that although she wasn't in favour of illegal downloading per se she knew it was the only feasible way in which Iranians could access the film - as it would never be available in cinemas over there as things stand - and that she'd been contacted by several people who said they'd managed to do just that, which she was thrilled about.
The film's already generated a lot of comment and debate and is well worth seeing!
