Serendipity

It was another lovely day so my friend and I went out for a bike ride this morning.  I love that she never complains about me stopping for photos along the way.  We were on a dirt road (riding my road bike) and had just come down a hill into a curve at the bottom.  There were two other cyclists stopped there and as we rode past them they asked if we saw the heron nests. We stopped to see an amazing sight.  There were probably 30 Great Blue Heron nests in the treetops, all occupied.  While I was standing there snapping away, two more cyclists came along and asked if we had seen the Great Horned Owls who had taken over one of the nests.  So, if you're looking on a big screen and have good eyes, you will see an owl and one owlet sitting in the nest among the herons. My friend and I were so busy talking we would have missed the whole scene and we never would have seen the owls at all if they hadn't been pointed out. Lucky we were there at the right time!  This may not be the best technical shot but it is definitely the moment I want to remember from today.  :-)
