Sound Mirrors

Went over to Dungeness today to take some photographs for a series of minimalist landscapes. I came across the Denge Sound Mirrors which I'd not visited before.  This is the 30 foot concave built in 1930, one of three experimental concrete structures designed to detect enemy aircraft approaching the coast.  They were built in isolated locations - here on an island in a lake surrounded by a huge shingle beaches - to eliminate unwanted noise. The system became obsolete with the invention of radar.
