Sublime

Wells Cathedral. There was a church on this site from the year 705. The present Cathedral was started in the year 1175 and completed in 1490. It is a prime example of Early English Gothic.
In our day and age the idea of starting a project which we know would never be finished even in the lifetimes of our grandchildren seems to have disappeared. Perhaps now we build for ourselves rather than for some being who may live for ever.
Even for a non religious person a visit to this building is a rewarding emotional and intellectual experience. And I thought buying a photographer's permit for £4 was well worthwhile.
The Cathedral is surrounded by many other impressive related buildings including the Bishop's Palace. It is all worth several hours of one's time.
