Best Day Out Ever!

It is something of a family habit to drag out birthdays over a few days if not weeks. Miss E is no exception!
Today we went to London for her birthday outing.
What a fabulous, fabulous day we had!!
It got off to a wonderful start when we were woken up at 7am hearing them chanting (in the style of a protest march) "Where are we going? London Eye" over and over again. Brilliant!!
We met Nana and Papa at Milton Keynes train station and within minutes were on our way to London. In First Class making the most of the free tea, coffee, juice, muffins and biscuits.
When we got to Euston we headed up to the lounge so Mr K could show the Little Misses where he spends all his time sometimes goes before catching his train. Mr K asked the man behind the bar if they had any gluten free snacks for Miss L and he came back with a tray laden for her. It made her feel very special.
Then it was to the Underground to start our day. Apart from one incident with Miss L going precariously close to the edge of the platform they were brilliant. They loved the escalators and jumping on and off the trains. 
We got off at Embankment and set off on one of my favourite walks in London - across Hungerford Bridge to the London Eye.
It was so amazing seeing the Little Misses taking it all in - the river, the people, the view, the buildings, the boats, the buses, the trains, the London Eye, Big Ben, the street entertainers......
They LOVED the London Eye. And so did I! It's been years since I've been on it and it was fabulous seeing all the additions to the skyline.
When we were at the very top Miss E spotted an adventure playground down below and as soon as we got off they rushed over to it and we had a lovely - if cold - forty five minutes watching them climb on the logs and ropes.
When we could no longer feel our toes we took the river boat down to the Tower of London. We were lucky enough to get seats right at the front and the Little Misses knelt with their noses pressed against the glass taking it all in.
We hung around for a bit at the Tower, looked at Tower Bridge, posed with a Beefeater sheep (Miss E helping Miss L to smile!) and then headed back up the river on the boat. At the front again. And back to the park which was clearly the highlight of London to the Little Misses! Mum and I sneaked off to sit in the warm in a cafe in County Hall while Mr K and my dad did park duty.
We eventually prised them away from the park and walked across Westminster Bridge and under Big Ben. Then we jumped on the number 12 bus past Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and up Regent Street to Hamleys.
Miss E had some birthday money to spend and I was worried she'd be totally overwhelmed by the choice in Hamleys and we'd be in there for hours. She did look at almost every toy but stayed quite calm and chose to get yet another Build-a-Bear. She got a spotty dog called Patch and Miss L got a giraffe called Nis Bel (Nice Belle!)
It was about a million degrees inside Hamleys so it was nice to get out into the fresh air of Regent Street and set off in search of Pizza Hut. Unfortunately the Pizza Hut on Oxford Street which Mr K found on his phone turned out to be a concession stand in a shopping centre food court.  We searched for the nearest Pizza Express and found one near Soho Square. Perfect.
By that time Miss E was pronouncing that her feet were killing her! Such a funny expression from a little girl. She's definitely not used to pounding the city streets!
Dinner was fabulous. The Little Misses were so well behaved and grown up in a proper grown up restaurant. The West End on a Saturday night!!
Back on the Underground to Euston and sadly no time in the lounge as we timed it perfectly to get on the next train.
It was busy and people were preciously sat there with bags on seats next to them hoping the people with the two children wouldn't sit next to them.
Ha ha, move aside misery guts!!
He needn't have worried. The Little Misses were angels and sat beautifully playing with their new toys. Miss L lasted until Watford before passing out!
What a wonderful day. Just amazing!
