Greatham Old Church

The doorway to the chancel at the Old Church in Greatham.  I drive past this old church every day and finally today had some time to stop and explore it.  Built in 1262 the church fell into disuse after the dedication of a new village church in 1875.  Over the years the church fell into disrepair and the archway between the Nave and Chancel bricked up – hence this door.  In 1990 the Old Church Preservation trust was formed and began to restore the church.  Future plans are to remove the bricks filling the archway to the chancel and insert a glass screen so visitors can see inside – see more here.

A very windy day, with rain this morning.  More time spent in the garden and then exploring Greatham.  The clocks went forward last night so its light outside at 7pm this evening.
