Taraf Dékalé

We went to Remus this evening, a festival of Musiques Actuelles. The final act on the bill was Taraf Dékalé, a 9-piece band playing music from around the Mediterraneran -- a sample here. Before that, Loa Frida, a tiny Polish girl with masses of raven-black hair who sings incomprehensible songs in a squeaky voice with her hands cupped round her ears, and Bibi Tanga, a musician from Central Africa playing "Afrofunk" -- think Osibisa (if you are old enough). Total: 16 musicians. Number of women: 2 (and they were both in the same 3-piece band!).

I only took the little camera, so my photos were a bit noisy, but I liked the interaction in this one. Small Flickr set here.
