St Matthew Passion

At the Episcopalian Cathedral in Glasgow this evening to see the Dunedin Consort performing the Bach St Matthew Passion. Poked my head in a little earlier before heading for dinner and found them in final rehearsal. Gorgeous venue to look at, but unfortunately played havoc with the tuning of some of the period instruments from time to time, and although their approach of using 8 soloists and no choir is effective, the absence of the full double choirs called for is more apparent when played in a large building. Still for all that this remains one of those shivers up the spine pieces that easter never feels complete without.
