Lake Grassmere
A great day for the fisherman and I. Not so good for a couple of fish but that still leaves plenty that had a good day ;-)
It was mild and initially there was no wind. It did come up but that can be a good thing as it stirs things up and can make the fish feed. Sure enough, just as the ripples appeared I hooked into a solid fish.
It was a good fight. Big runs then patiently angling it and bringing it back to the shallows, then another powerful run... Part of me is pleased (the rest is disappointed) a large and beautifully conditioned Rainbow Trout flicked the hook in the shallows and disappeared. Instead of waiting for the landing net to arrive I should have just beached it.
So close.
With the wind blowing into us we decided to head down the road to the top end of Pearson. Blimey the high country lakes are low. It looked like the tide was out.
With a heap of weed (warm water + low levels = more weed) and the nor'west rain chasing us, we headed to Lake Lyndon. I've never seen it so low.
More weed but we fished the drop off. A feisty wee rainbow found it's way onto my hook. Not only was it small but also foul hooked (not taken in the mouth and thus illegal to keep). Back it went.
Such a nice day to be in the high country. Good company, good fun, good chasing :-)
