Cherry blossom is not just another pretty flower, in Japan it heralds the start of spring and the season of hanami parties, where people hold picnics or BBQs under the trees. This is one of the pretty trees at work - not yet blossoming in all its glory but not far off. If we have a weekend of sunshine and warmer temperatures this will be beautiful next week.

The significance of the cherry blossom tree in Japanese culture goes back hundreds of years. The cherry blossom represents the fragility and the beauty of life. It's a reminder that life is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also tragically short.
