Gazing at the Moon
Last night Danny and I went to Long Eaton School for a Star Gazing Live event to tie in with the BBC 2 series last week. It was an excellent evening. We had a session in a blow up tent mobile planetarium, and then we watched an excellent lecture given by Anu Ojha from the National Space Academy, which was very entertaining and along the lines of the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures. During the talk he made a comet out of some carbon (coal dust), silica (sand), ethanol (red wine), amino acids (Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce), some water and some dry ice.
After the lecture we went to have a look in the observatory which is on the school roof. The blip is of Danny peering through the telescope looking at the moon.
Afterwards we went outside and had a look through other peoples scopes and saw the moon and Jupiter and it's moons. This was brilliant as I could see the different coloured bands of cloud in Jupiter's atmosphere, and the moons appeared as small bright pin pricks of light.
It was a brilliant evening and we were blessed with perfect weather again.
Thanks for the nice comments on my recent blips, I'll catch up at the weekend when I have more time
