The Lord and his Ladies

Deep in the heart of the Somerset countryside we were generously welcomed by Tom, Jenny and Scott who were pleased to introduce us to this superb Silver Grey Dorking

This not very common breed is said to have originated in Italy at the time of Julius Caesar and was introduced to Britain by the Romans.

The Silver Grey name comes from the colour of the hen. The cockerel above seemed very proud of them. He is just six months old and has much growing to do yet. The breed is unusual in having five toes.
