Kynaston's Cave
Myself and another member of our walking group are leading the walk on Monday so we did a recce this afternoon. We decided on Nescliffe Hill as she had led a walk there before. It's a difficult place to negotiate as the interior looks the same with paths and trees criss crossing and very few signs. I've been lost there on a family walk and with two different walking groups so I knew that it was a risk. You've guessed it ........... but we have hopefully found a foolproof route. We'll see on Monday!
This is Kynaston's Cave, a two roomed cave where Humphrey Kynaston the Shrewsbury highwayman was reputed to live with his horse Beelzebub. We used to be able to go inside (up sandstone steps on the left) but it's now been "health and safetied" at the bottom and top. It's high in a sandstone cliff on the way round the hill.
