Parallels
We played hide and seek with Mies van der Rohe and the light. Such a contrast to Gaudi.
We then got ourselves bewilderingly lost on Montjuic. Our combined senses of direction, our maps and the occasional ‘You are here’ plan by the side of the road did not tally at all and at one desperate point we found ourselves outside a vast city of the dead - apartment block after apartment block of coffins fronted by faded plastic flowers - and wondered whether we'd be there for eternity.
The day ended much better in a superb small restaurant recommended by Digitaldaze and Barrioboy where my Spanish got me as far as telling our friendly and attentive waiter that we were celebrating my mum’s birthday. He delighted in our enjoyment of the food he chose for us but when we said we were too full for a sweet he seemed distraught. It was too much to see him so upset so we relented then, as he brought out a confection with lit candles, we understood.
