World Water Day (Week)
Sunday March 22 was World Water Day. These boys in De La Salle, Ballyfermot used a little poetic licence and made their contribution today, in the sun, wind, hail and rain, wonderfully assisted by the teachers and parents.
They carried their buckets in class groupings, doing three rounds of the football pitch.
They found it hard going and got some little indication of how hard a job it is to carry water for miles every day, and for girls at that!
After our little talk last week, one boy in second class decided to write a little poem for the occasion (He has the grey jacket with the blue, behind the bucket, in the picture)
Malawi:
One day two people went to Malawi
to help build a well.
so they got people to dig down the well,
Then one person came up with an idea;
We can put in a pipe and use it to get water out of the well, instead of a bucket.
Then another person made a lid for the well.
Then they pumped the clean water
And everyone in the village was happy
The End.
I said I loved it and before I left, Miss O'Brien had it framed and wrapped for me.
What a lovely place to be, lovely people and similar, in spirit, to those I will meet in Malawi later in the week.
