This little baby is what's known in the trade as a mid-position valve. No, I didn't know that either - until it packed up and our central heating stopped functioning as a result. Fortunately our trusty plumber and electrician, Marc, rode to the rescue and fixed it in short order. His number is on one of our fridge magnets - so handy for this sort of emergency!
