The Old Town Hall

Not a typical Monday morning.

Had a bit of a tour around the conversion of the former Magistrates court, which until 1974 was the old Salford Town Hall off Bexley Square. X1 are now converting it to apartments, with all the work to be completed by May time, and the plan to have it fully let by September.

They are making a fine job of the conversion so far. The floor murals look wonderful, as do the staircases, and because of the floor to ceiling heights the apartments I saw looked light and airy. I took quite a few photos, but had to finally settle on one.

All the city centre apartments under construction now seem to be some form of "private rented sector" model. Young professionals in their 20's and 30's seem to be willing to pay significant sums for renting an apartment, but cannot afford the deposit on a home which would allow them onto the ownership ladder. I gathered almost the first question asked when looking to rent is .... has it got good WiFi (the answer here is yes).

After this, a tour of the nearby archaeological dig of the nearby New Bayley Prison. That was fascinating.
