Milano

Travelled by high speed train today from Paris to Milan. Went 1st class for the princely sum of €57 - less than I paid 2nd class from Swindon to London in January!

First time in Milan. What an amazing old city, it's centre unchanged for decades, with towering buildings leaning over narrow streets where original trams trundle over cobbles that were never torn up when the rest of the world was consigning its tramways to history.

Our apartment lies behind a door just like this, where hidden courtyards play host to tens of thousands of confirmed city dwellers whose preferred mode of transport (trams apart) seem to be waspish little scooters that weave themselves among the traffic.

First thing tomorrow we go to see Da Vinci's "Last Supper".
