True Grit

A few weeks ago at breakfast some American friends started talking about 'grits'...this led to today's breakfast, where the Brits were introduced to 'grits'...and sausage gravy...and bacon jam...and biscuits (that aren't biscuits, but are more scone like and are apparently eaten alongside grits, sausage gravy and scrambled egg.)
Fortunately there was the more familiar bucks fizz (which they like to call 'mimosa') or a bloody mary to help us deal with this different breakfast.
So it's not just a common language that separates us, but breakfast too - we've threatened promised them a proper English breakfast, but first we have to get the smuggler lined up...Deb! Deb! Are you listening?!

It was, joking aside, a lovely morning and I wont go into detail about the subject matter, suffice to say that we managed to discuss everything from sex ed. in German schools to Magic Mike style circus acts.
