And the traces of the love we had in places

I went out for a walk at lunchtime today.

I forgot to bring lunch; possibly because my cooking yesterday had a detrimental effect on my well-being today.

I walked "round the block", as it were, and passed two loads of folk doing the same in the other direction.

Once, many years ago, himself and I took part in a sponsored bike race, around the Island of Bute.  We drove up the coast to Wemyss Bay and left the car and ferried over.  Lack of other cyclists concerned us slightly; were we on the wrong ferry?  Wrong Island?  Wrong Day?

It turned out not.  When we disembarked there were hundreds of bikes and people about, all over the  place.  We hurriedly found the check in, grabbed the maps and then the two of us headed off, with everyone at the check in desk, waving and shouting frantically at us.

Wow, we thought, we must be really late, and they want us to hurry up and get on with it.   It was quite a while before we found the first check in... we waved over, shouted our names and numbers, and kept on going.  We were obviously the last in the pack, and needed to catch up a bit.

At the next couple of check ins, the monitor shook his head and waved us through, as we carried on round, we started to pass other cyclists - not on our side of the road, the other side of the road.

At the next check in, we stopped.  Before we even said anything the monitor said "Cruse, x 2";

"how did you know" said us.

"You're the only two cycling the route in the opposite direction.. we've been told to keep an eye out for you".
