Found In Translation

We've finally found some books which Arthur is keen to read. It's the Magic Tree House series. Kazuko read him the first chapter of the first book in Japanese and he was so excited that he read the next chapter by himself. That pattern continued a few more times and now he is reading whole books by himself. He loves these books!

I returned to work today so I borrowed the first three books from the library so that I can read him one chapter each night at bedtime. It is interesting to compare the differences. For example, the titles are different. Dinosaurs Before Dark becomes Big Adventure in Dinosaur Valley in Japanese. The chapter titles are all different too. When Jack says, "You're nuts!" to Annie in the first book, he says, "What do you think you are doing?" in the Japanese version.

I wonder which version Arthur will prefer?
