King Richard III Whizzed By
Len and I went over to Leicester to visit George and Kat this afternoon. Bit of diy for Len to do.
The main objective was to view the funeral cortege of King Richard III, whose body (skeleton) was taken to Bosworth battlefield, then back to Leicester today to lie in repose in Leicester Cathedral.
Shortly before 4 pm, George herded us out of the house to be able to drive down the A47 before it was closed to traffic. He parked the car down the old Hinckley Road which enabled us to nip round the corner to find a spot on the present Hinckley Road, now called King Richard Road.
We had to wait some 25 minutes, as the procession was running a bit late, which was probably why when it did pass us, it was going at speed. George took a video on his phone which lasts all of five seconds!
But we did see the coffin in the hearse.
It was moving to be just such a small part in today's events. We followed proceedings on BBC Radio Leicester and Channel 4 TV. Makes us sort of proud to be associated with Leicester.
