For David
Today my husband ran in a half marathon. He ran with his running group Thorndon Park Runners in memory of David Bland MBE. He was a huge part of Thorndon Runners as he was one of the founder members of the group. They leave no one out. From walking groups, walk/runners, slow runners, fast runners everyone is catered for. Even when David was really poorly he came along to support the runners even if it meant going around in his car and encouraging from there.
He was very well known in the athletic world and worked with the British team on many occasions. A well loved and respected man. All the Thorndon runners ran with his name and this photo on their backs. Well done to everyone who took part....maybe one day I'll do it.
Many years ago my hubby and I took part in the very first Brentwood Fun Run. It was three miles back then. It was actually the first ever run I did. It hurt so much I didn't do another one for over thirty years. It was lovely to see so many children taking part in the fun run today...runners for the future.
I was well looked after. There was a local church offering free cake, drinks and BBQ. You could make a donation if you wanted to. There was a band playing but more importantly it was warm. After I had my tea and cake I wandered to the finishing line. I just got there as the first runner came through. I love cheering them on at the end and looking at at the different expressions on their faces...mostly relief that it's over.
Home and a quick visit to the garden centre. I now have quite a few jobs to do tomorrow.
Then it was swimming for me. I must have been inspired by this morning as I swam my heart out tonight.
