High Tides at Gullane

When I woke up this morning and looked at the weather forecast, I decided it would be a good day to go out and take some photos.  I wasn't sure were to go, so I looked at my list of favourite places for inspiration and made a vague plan to go to see the Ormiston Yew tree and then head along the coast towards North Berwick.

I headed out in afternoon as I had an Osteopath appointment in the morning.  On the way I decided to abandon the plan to stop in Ormiston and continue on to the coast as in was so sunny.  As this was the first long drive i have done since my leg injury, I noticed my leg was starting to get a bit sore, so I decided to stop in Gullane instead of going to to North Berwick.

I am glad I did as I got there at the perfect time.  The tide was very high and still coming in,  a strong current close to the shore was forcing the water right up to the sand dunes.I set my tripod up so the it was low to the ground and placed it just below the sand dunes.  I used my remote to trigger the camera as the waves lashed forward and covered the base of my tripod.

When I was taking the photos, I over heard many people saying they had never seen it like this before, then I remembered that my osteopath had mentioned that there was going to be unusually high tides in South England and the east coast of Canada.  I figured that the solar eclipse, supermoon and spring equinox were causing these unusually high tides.  I may not have managed to get a photo of the eclipse yesterday, but glad I could capture the tides today.
