Muttley's Musings

Joe Cornish

Many Thanks for all the comments, stars and hearts that you have given me for my Eclipse picture on Friday. They are all appreciated.

On Saturday I went to the Photography Show at the NEC and a had a brilliant, if slightly surreal time there. You see there were also other shows on in different halls, so the car parks and lobby areas were a mix of photographers, crafting people and a whole range of comic book characters of all ages and sizes wandering around.

I attended some of the lectures in the Adobe theatre and found the ones on Lightroom and Photoshop very informative.

As I was moving around the show I stumbled across Joe Cornish doing a little talk on one of the stands about printing flowlines. It was very interesting and nice to see some of Joe's images.

In the afternoon I also found him on another stand giving a talk about using filters, and he was using a variety of his images to illustrate the talk. For me this was a more useful talk, and Joe answered one of my questions about how he deals with sunrise and sunsets where the brightness is across the centre of the image.

I was thrilled with these two encounters with Joe, as he was the photographer who inspired me to take my photography more seriously back when I was living in Northallerton, where Joe's gallery is based, as I was exposed to a lot of his work in local shops in the form of pictures, cards and calendars.

So here we have Joe in full flow talking about printing and his flow lines.

I was a good boy and restrained myself from spending too much money. I managed to buy a new camera bag to replace my old one which is a bit small and has a defective zip too.

On Sunday I'm going to watch the funeral cortège of Richard III pass through the local area from Bosworth Battlefield back into Leicester ready for his reinternment at the Cathedral on Thursday
