living in a glass house

Spring!

We celebrated Spring Equinox today by going to Dunham Massey and for the first time actually going into the garden and the house, as we are old now and have National Trust memberships.  The estate had a re-enactment of when it was a WW1 hospital.  It was really interesting and even the children enjoyed most of it, though Chickpea was scared of the room where there was a set-up of a brain surgery, though there wasn't really a person on the operating table, just empty clothes and a bedsheet and a light that made it look like blood was leaking onto the cloth.  There was an audio recording of a beating heart and the nurses and doctor were faceless as well.  I agree it was pretty creepy.  There were also actors playing the soldiers and nurses and I would have liked to stay around longer to listen to more of what they were saying. I'm happy the sun was shining for the first official day of Spring, though it was still chilly, a lovely day was had a Dunham.
