Fight, Fight, Fight
Portland Place, outside BBC Broadcasting House, was the assembly point for the UN Anti-Racism Day Demonstration. Participants had been instructed to assemble at 12 noon today, which coincided exactly with my lunch break. So I went outside and mingled with the crowds of placard-waving demonstrators, camera slung around my neck, before they set off on their march to Trafalgar Square for a mass rally. It was organised by Stand Up to Racism.
Today I worked on Radio 4's "Saturday Live" for the last time. Presenter Richard Coles will be among the guests at my leaving party next Friday, and he gave me a big hug today to thank me for all my work on the programme over the years. It is one of the shows I shall miss the most when I retire - it's always been tremendous fun to mix the pre-recorded items for the programme, and to do the sound on the live transmission itself. And I shall miss in particular working on the genius items put together by JP Devlin, who is both unique and hilarious in equal measure. He is a little star who positively twinkles. I must admit to shedding a few tears after we came off air this morning, the first of many that will no doubt be falling during this final week of my 34-year BBC career.
