Hoppy First Day of Spring!
Did spring come in like a lamb, or like a lion? No, wait, that was March we were talking about. But what about spring? Well, I'd say that it arrived more like a rabbit, a potentially somewhat cranky rabbit, covered in snow.
For on this day, we got a major winter storm which dumped a new six inches of snow on the ground. The weather peeps suggested that the next day's temps would be so warm that the snow would dissolve instantly on the ground, but I shall wait and see if that is what happens indeed.
This is Spot, one of the two wild eastern cottontail rabbits that my husband has been hanging out with in the front yard. You've met his (her?) pal, Mini Bunzini as well. What antics we are treated to when the two of them decide to play!
We had a little scare with Spot the other morning. Alas, the poor body of a deceased bun was found on the road in front of our house that morning, and Spot had not shown up for breakfast. Imagine our happiness when a few hours later, my husband called me at work to inform me that he had BOTH bunnies at his feet once again. Spot was alive! Such joy and relief!
Well, I must admit that Spot has been spoiled much more than usual since then. My husband feeds the bunnies treats and snacks several times a day, and Spot has taken to following him around the yard, much like a puppy.
The tune to accompany this *ahem* springy image is a lovely Natalie Merchant rendition of the poem Spring and Fall, to a young child, written by Gerard Manley Hopkins. (Don't let the fact that it's based on an old poem throw you off; she sings it in such a lovely way, so give a listen.)
