Near the Axelsee

Paradise can be found anywhere. Alongside the Weserriver you will still stumble into areas which seem almost deserted, forgotten. And the miracle is that this small Arcadian Water is situated next to a well visited recreation park. And...just around the corner of a hideous old nuclear power site. The reactor has been put out of service years ago. But even if you were conscious of its nearness, you would tend to forget its presence. The sheer beauty of the lake, the silence and reflexion of the sunrays in the water. The reed, the willows, the few coots cruising over the surface. The dampblue sky over the vague misty mountains in the distance.

This “lake” - we would call it a “gravel-pit” - really is a water of Nothing. No Rowing or Sailing, even no fishing allowed. No swim here. But on this bright afternoon  we enjoyed simply to stroll through the humid grass. See the wonderful views for a photo. That was all we did. We leaned back where the grass was dry. And there we layed, eyes closed. Almost dosing off. Listening to the coots. A place to stay until after sunset. However not in March, as the breeze is still chilly. As we stood up a bit dizzy to leave this little paradise we knew how happiness can be found in deserted places devoid of interest. No need for a Lago Magiore when you discover a forgotten gravel-pit around the corner.
