Two days ago, Alex picked up a Children's Bible I got him for Christmas a few years ago.  It hadn't gotten much use up until then and I was happy to see him spark an interest and start reading the short stories on his own.  Once he started, he didn't stop.  He read that book continuously any time he was home, in the car, at the doctor's office, in the kitchen while I cooked and late into last night.  He even said to me "If you are reading the Bible in the car, God will not let you get car sick".  I wasn't too keen on testing that theory, but he proved to be right. ;)  I wasn't just impressed with his ability to read and sound out some of the tough words, but he also comprehended what he was reading and would make reference to stories he had already read about particular characters, turning the pages way back to show me what that person had already done.  Tonight he finished reading this 511 page book to Daddy and was eager to see a real Bible.  I pulled mine out for him (not as dusty as I had thought it would be) and watched the disappointment set in as there were no colorful pictures and the words were tiny in size and a lot more of them.  Made me laugh.
