Life is like a river

The Everyday Hero

I had a great night with the bookclub.  The author of the month will be one of my all time favourites; Auður Haralds.  We'll be reading her first novel, Hvunndagshetjan/The Everyday Hero, first published in 1979.

I told them about the first time I read a book by Auður Haralds.  I was just a young schoolgirl in Vestmannaeyjar and began reading one of her novels in the public library.  There was a strict rule of peace and quiet in this library and to my embarrassment I began giggling and laughing while reading this extremely funny book.  I still remember the feeling of being out of control and ashamed of my "bad behaviour" until I decided to take the book home and finish reading it - and laughing outloud - in the privacy of my own bedroom.
