Obscurity beckons

Tomorrow morning, the lights will go out. 

That's not strictly true. In Orkney the eclipse will only be 96% and indeed the streetlights in Lady village might come on instead if it gets too dark.

As for actually witnessing the transit of the moon in front of our nearest star, the weather omens are not promising. Just like St Ives, sixteen years ago, the spectacle will elude me. 

I'll continue to hang on to this old tome with the intention of taking it with me to either Mazatlan, Mexico or Monckton, Canada in 2024. I'm sure that either location would be happy to receive the guarantee of rain that my presence is sure to attract.
