Gender issues in Iran

Part of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women two-week long conference: for the first week I went to one event per day.
Unfortunately a relatively canned performance by this woman, I believe, the minister of women's affairs or the equivalent (the nun-ish looking one though her garb included some fascinating gold filigree denoting, I think, her high rank). Whom a foreign correspondent indicated was a real tough cookie, which I think you'd have to be, to rise high in Iran.
