Away from the roll of the sea........
St. Patrick's day. Kind of a big day here in the States. Now that I am older I recognize it for what it really is.......amateur night. I remember being young, drinking green beer and dancing the jig until way after midnight. And we sang. Oh my did we sing. Every Irish song ever written..........I usually ended the night throwing up everything I ate and drank.......I can't drink more than two drinks. It's taken me a long time to realize that. I never could and still can't.
I am really ok with that. Since I am on a diet the craziest thing i have done all night is eat an apple.
The kicker is I am not Irish. I do not have a drop of irish blood in me. My paternal side is directly from Scotland ( in the 17th century) and my mom's side, Scottish by way of Prince Edward Island in the 1800s. So forgive my ignorance but is there a day where we get to wear plaid, drink whiskey and snog red bearded men?
Oh wait,
That was my 20s
This is the waterfront in Portland. I love Portland.
When I turned and saw this shot, I sang this song in my head:
It's called : Away From The Roll of The Sea
Small craft in the harbor all safe and serene,
Give no indication of where they have been.
They rest at their moorings all snug in their dreams
Away from the roll of the sea.
Their stern lines are groaning a lullabye air.
A ghost in the cuddy a gull in the spar.
But together they whisper of tales near and far
Away from the roll of the sea
Oh had they the tongues for to speak.
What tales of adventure they'd weave
But for now they just tumble and creak and they slumber alee
Send fair winds to bless them tomorrow we pray
A harvest of plenty to them everyday.
Until guided by harbor lights they're home to stay.
Away from the roll of the sea.....
Allistair MacGillvray
Tomorrow we stretch hands across Blipland. I love this place and the friends I have made.
Goodnight to the north and G'Day to all my friends in the Southern Hemisphere.
