Cherry Blossom at Stopham Church
Cherry Blossom at St Mary’s, Stopham.
Stopham is a tiny village or hamlet of less than 100 people, near Pulborough. There are records of Rectors at this church going back to 1288 when the name of the Rector was Selfridus – did he become Selfridge and start a store? I suppose we’ll never know.
The tower you can see is thought to be 12thC but many architectural features point to a date not later than the 11thC., making it Saxo-Norman.
We’d been to the garden centre to pick up a birthday present, so mild we had tea outdoors. It’s a real pleasure to be out and about after weeks of fatigue and weakness. I’m still not there yet but I’m hoping I’ve turned a corner.
